First Year Scholars 2025-26

Evelyn Allsup

Pittsburgh Chapter Award
Carnegie Mellon University
Research: Department of Physics, Using theorhetical simulations combined with observational studies to find correlations between core-collapse supernovae and binary black hole merger populations

Anusha Kalavacharla
Elliott-Martin-Meadowcroft-Testoni ARCS Pittsburgh Endowed Scholar Award,
Supporting Research at UPMC Children's Hospital
University of Pittsburgh
Research: School of Microbiology and Immunology. My research and career goals are centered on understanding the transmission and pathogenesis of neglected tropical viruses. Currently, my work focuses on elucidating the role of endothelial cells in Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) infection. This research aims to uncover novel CHIKVendothelium interactions and define their contribution to viral pathogenesis. These findings are essential to inform future research aimed at improving CHIKV prevention and treatment.
Personal: In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and discovering new restaurants around the city. I love going to the movies, taking dance classes, and hiking in Frick Park. Lately, I’ve become interested in cooking and am excited to explore new recipes.
Andrew Krapivin
Jeanne B. and Richard F. Berdik ARCS Pittsburgh Endowed Scholar Award
Carnegie Mellon University
Research: Developing the theory around data structures and applying them to various fields, for example, hash tables, on modeling the reorder buffer of a CPU, comparing two different architectures for AI, and encodings for SAT solvers
